I’m a little late on this, as if I would have realized this when the Michael movie came out, I would have made this article then.

As I sat here listening to some of Michael Jackson’s most inspirational songs, it made me realize that, as a person, Caterina Scorsone of Grey’s Anatomy embodies a lot of what he speaks about in his music. Heal the World, We Are the World, and Man in the Mirror are all songs about how the only way to make change is not only by beginning with yourself, but also by coming together and making an impact.

Caterina constantly uses her platform to encourage people to be kind, for her own advocacy, and community. She has often asked her followers to think about what they can do for their own communities. All of her messages have consistently been that love matters most. No matter what she is advocating for, whether it be for her daughter Pippa, those with disabilities, or the LGBTQ community, Caterina demonstrates the kind of compassion and kindness Michael has sung about in many of his most beloved songs. When I hear the lyrics to those songs about making a change, I can’t help but think of Caterina and all she’s done to make this world a better place and the example she sets to those who look up to her.

Neither Michael’s music nor Caterina’s advocacy is really about grand gestures. At the end of the day, it is about humanity in others and choosing to care about others. They remind us that, at the end of the day, even small acts of kindness can create change.

This is why some of his songs remind me of Caterina. They carry themes of hope, inclusion, and service that Michael has expressed through his music, and these are all qualities I see reflected in Caterina as a person, in her actions and her advocacy.

Music often helps us understand the people who inspire us. For me, Michael Jackson’s most inspirational songs have given me a new way to appreciate the values that Caterina brings into the world. Caterrina if you read this I want you to know that I adore you so much and you make me feel so seen. <3
